Friends Of Trees // #5: Quartier Collective

We’ve teamed up with 5 inspiring creatives from across the globe to introduce our very first YKRA KIDS line designed by artist Anna Kövecses: THE FRIENDS OF TREES - THE REFORESTATION MOVEMENT Collection!
In the last edition of our mini-series, get to know the “full-time on the road” family, Taryn, Martin, Matilda, Francis and Viggo, a.k.a. the Quartier Collective (@quartiercollective). They started to use the BEACH BAG in the incredibly green Ireland, while we finished the interview they were just leaving Portugal, and right now when we post this they are enjoying the Italian autumn in Tuscany.
Tell us a little about yourself! (Where are you from? What do you do? etc.)
We are Martin and Taryn, a Canadian/American couple with our three kids, Matilda, Francis and Viggo. We live full-time on the road. We travel from country to country, spending 1-3 months in each new place. We sleep in castles or mud huts, city apartments, boats, tents... We are photographers and storytellers, and we work on projects that bring curious families together in cool parts of the world.
Why did you choose this tree (or/and the location too)? Why is this special to you?
Did you know the cork in your wine bottle is just cut right out of the bark of a cork tree?! We had never seen cork trees before our first visit to Portugal. We love the way they harvest the bark every nine years, cutting it off in perfect lines, like shearing sheep. We shot this right up the road from a little house we rented in a small Portuguese village.
If you were a tree, what tree you would be and why?:)
We would be a mangrove: always near the sea, connected and linked like a family, beautiful from far away and complicated up close ;)
